There is so much to see and do in Alexandria.  With it's boutique downtown shopping area to its many wineries and breweries you will be sure to find something you love.

THINGS TO DO IN THE AREA

  1. Lake Brophy Wayside Park:  The park has amazing hills for off road biking and hiking and an amazing playground with tons of unique playground apparatus.  This park is a must see if you have little ones or want to go on a little hike. In the winter - you can sled or ice skate and spend time around the firepit.  The park is located just 5 minutes from the cabin - 4172 County Hwy 82, Alexandria, MN 56308

  2. Shopping:  There are SO many cute shopping places in Alexandria - head down to Broadway street and you will find some of the best shopping, all within walking distance.  Some of my favorites are Past Present Home Gallery, The Dashery, Creative Touch Boutique, 6th and Broadway Clothing and Decor, Hello Beautiful Boutique and Coffee Shop, Scandanavian Gift Shop, The Blue Rooster Shoppe, and Yesterdays.  

  3. Runestone Museum: This kid-friendly museum has a Scavenger Hunt for the young and young at heart! The museum features pioneer displays, a wildlife exhibit, a World War II living room with 1940’s music playing, a children’s discovery area and special limited time exhibits. The large Annex has many displays, including a 40 foot replica Viking ship and a huge 1906 steam tractor. Check the museum website for dates and admission prices.   5. Country Blossom Farm: Open seasonally from mid-August through mid-November Country Blossom has fun for guests of all ages! Featuring a bakery, gift shop, apple orchard, pick-your-own raspberries & strawberries, They are famous for their take and bake pies, and delicious savory hand pies for lunch.   8. Central Lakes Bike Trail: The Central Lakes Trail is a 55-mile trail that runs through the heart of west-central Minnesota.  The trail is open to non-motorized visitors with the exception of snowmobiles during the winter season.   9. Andes Tower Hills:  A local ski resort featuring 16 downhill runs and lifts ranging from beginner to expert. Offering rentals and lessons, snowboarding, skiing, cross country skiing, tubing and snowshoeing!   10. Parkers Prairie Christmas Tree Farm: Open Nov 21-Dec 23.  Make plans to visit and bring the whole family, take a sleigh ride, have the kids sit with Santa, grab a hot dog or brat available to roast from the local meat market and sit around the campfire, or shop for gifts in the 2500 sq. ft.   11. Shenanigans Indoor Playground: The ideal place for kids ages 1-12, Shenanigans offers a series of parent/child activities, slides, ladders, nets, mazes and imagination-inspiring play zones.   14. Viking Speedway:  A ½ mile semi-banked clay oval that races five WISSOTA sanctioned classes; Late Models, Modifieds, Super Stocks, Midwest Modifieds and Street Stocks.   15. Alexandria Farmers Market: Find delicious locally grown produce from May-Oct at Big Ole Central Park on the banks of Lake Agnes & Lake Henry, right on the Central Lakes Trail. WINERIES and BREWERIES

  1.  Carlos Creek Winery: Enjoy award winning wine in a stunning, yet unpretentious environment where the entire family is always welcome. Open 361 days a year for tasting and free self-guided tours through the wine cave. Free Production Tours are offered on Summer Saturdays. Live music from 2:00-6:00 every Saturday year-round and Sundays during the Summer. Additional activities include two full-size bocce courts, bean-bag toss games and garden-size chess boards. They host 3 festivals each year: The Grape Stomp and Fall Festival with 15,000 visitors, The family "Applefest" in October which features many activities for children, and the "Awake the Grapes" 5K and 10K runs through our vineyards in May. 

  2. 22 Northmen Brewery: Inspired by Viking architecture from around 12th Century, the 22 Northmen Brewery is a place for people to not only experience great beer, but to also experience Viking living. There is plenty of seating with gathering tables and an upper loft area. The upper level features additional seating with a more intimate atmosphere. Perfect for a romantic date or a private group. 

  3.  Coppertail Brewery: The Taproom - A clean-cut craftsman and industrial style taproom with a relaxing atmosphere located in Historic Downtown Alexandria. With seating for 150 at either the bar top, BORD tables or custom made tables made from refurbished wood.  Ask for a tour of the brewery system and see exactly how their craft beer was made 20 feet from where it was poured.  They have a wide selection of games on hand from Cribbage to Checkers, Jenga to Scrabble, have fun!

  4. Burr Vineyard: A small, family owned and operated vineyard and winery located just outside of Alexandria. They specialize in hand-crafted, warm-hearted wines derived from the cold-hardy grapes grown adjacent to the winery on the 95-acre property.   7. Naked Viking Brewery: OPENING 2021 - Visit their rooftop patio and enjoy the sunset along with fire pits and bag toss … bringing the outside in for the hearty Minnesotans. The historic building was originally built in 1929 and over the years served as a bottling plant for Pepsi, a warehouse for distributing potatoes and other produce, and a handful of other businesses.
